Have you ever felt like you're talking, but nobody is listening?
If you answer is “yes”, please keep reading the below...if your answer is “no” you have not talked enough yet.
On this TED Talk Julian Treasure, who studies sound and advises businesses on how best to use it, will share some tips which will attract the audience´s attention when talking:
a) “HAIL” technique:
- Honesty: being true in what you say, straight and clear.
- Authenticity: Be yourself. - Integrity: Actually doing what you say, and being somebody people can trust. - Love: Wish people well.
b) Register: Studies have shown that in general most people who speak from their nose are considered annoying. So speaking from the chest is linked with power and authority.
c) Timbre: Research shows that we prefer voices which are rich, smooth and warm (practice makes perfect).
d) Tone and Prosody: There is no right or wrong tone but to avoid speaking as a robot, we should be able to adapt out tone to the topic/circumstances.
e) Pace: by using the right pace we can express excitement by speaking quickly or slow down to show seriousness.
f) Volume: Managing the volume is very important, by doing accordingly you can transmit your message more effectively attracting audience´s attention.
